The Island Lecture Series April session celebrates National Poetry Month and features two Island poets in conversation with a third. Laurie Brinklow and Bren Simmers will read from their new books, My Island’s the house I sleep in at night (Island Studies Press, 2021) and If, When (Gaspereau Press, 2021), in a conversation hosted by Richard Lemm. Topics range from the role of story, place, and history in their poetry to their own poetic practices. There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience.

Bren Simmers is the managing editor of Island Studies Press. She is the author of Pivot Point (Gaspereau, 2019), a memoir about a wilderness canoe journey, as well as three other books of poetry. Learn more

Dr. Richard Lemm teaches creative writing, Canadian literature, and environmental literature at the University of Prince Edward Island. He is the author of five poetry collections, the most recent being Jeopardy (Acorn, 2018), which won the Prince Edward Island Book Award for Poetry. Learn more
