Institute of Island Studies | Governance

The Institute of Island Studies at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is administered within the UPEI Faculty of Arts and reports to the UPEI Vice-President Academic and Research.

OUR VISION
To be the leading centre of excellence on issues related to island studies scholarship, public policy, and engagement.

OUR MANDATE
· To encourage a deep knowledge, understanding, and expression of Prince Edward Island;
· To serve as a bridge between the University and Island communities;
· To contribute to the formulation of public policy in Prince Edward Island;
· To undertake and facilitate island studies research and education at local, national, and global scales.

The Institute of Island Studies operates under the direction of an Executive Committee. A separate Advisory Committee provides advice and guidance to the Executive. The roles and responsibilities of each are outlined in a Purpose and Procedures document.
The Institute’s work is guided by a Vision Statement: To be the leading centre of excellence on issues related to island studies scholarship, public policy, and engagement. Our Strategic Plan (2016–2021) outlines how this vision is achieved.

Master of Arts in Island Studies Program Information Session

You are invited to an information session focusing on UPEI’s Master of Arts in Island Studies program. In addition to the traditional thesis-based option, you are now able to take one of three course-based streams specializing in Island Tourism, Sustainable Island Communities, and International Relations & Island Public Policy. Join MAIS Program Coordinator Dr. Laurie Brinklow online for a brief presentation and to answer any questions you may have. Joining the call will be some current students to provide their perspectives on the program.

An information session will take place on Zoom on Tuesday, March 19, at 10 a.m. AST.
