As cold-water islands, Newfoundland and Iceland are often compared. This presentation by Prof. Mark Stoddart and Dr. Ásthildur Elva Bernharðsdóttir compares the financial crises that both islands have experienced: Iceland in 2008–2009, and Newfoundland currently. What have these experiences had in common and what lessons can they teach us?
The presentation was followed by a discussion lead by Dr. Jim Randall (UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability, UPEI) and a Q&A with the audience.
The research presented during this virtual event is being conducted as part of the Sustainable Island Futures project, which is funded by SSHRC and coordinated by the Institute of Island Studies and the UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability at the University of Prince Edward Island.
